Evelyn Scott

This is a 1966 Lydia Lane article. Enjoy!

Evelyn Scott of ABC-TV’s Peyton Place series feels that artificial eyelashes are here to stay. “I for one am grateful to them because I was bothered with mascara allergies. False lashes are flattering and a time saver, after you master the technique. “You can’t expect to buy lashes and wear them the way they come. You must be prepared to spend and hour or two making important adjustments and decisions.

After you know where you want them placed and what size and length they should be, you can put them on in a minute or two and not be bothered again for a long time. I have been wearing the pair every day for three months,” she confided, sipping her tea. Because Evelyn’s eyes are wide apart she does not extend her lashes beyond the outer corner. “I know models who strip of lashes in two strips and only use them on the outer tips of their eyes. They say a workman is no better than his tools, and I know you can learn to apply lashes if you are patient and willing to experiment, because I did.” Here are some of Evelyn’s hints: Place a magnifying mirror so that you can look down into it. Never try to cut the lashes when you have them on. But be sure to hold the lashes firmly when you trim them.

Snip here and there to give a natural irregularity. Cutting them straight across makes them look false. “If you wear glasses and have difficulty seeing your eyes without them, there is a special mirror with a corrective lens to the place of your glasses. They are available at most department stores. It is advisable to use a liquid surgical adhesive to apply lashes.”

“And always clean your lashes after every wearing. Hold them firmly between your fingers and gently roll off the stale adhesive and they will last a long time.”
